IT GETS HOT AT THE BOTTOM

911 CALLS

I said earlier that I was going to call Westmoreland Department of Emergency Management today however I didn’t get to it. I had a lot of things come up and I was investigating another… so, la-de-da.

I will try again on Thursday.

I spoke to Mark Brammell, the Westmoreland County Emergency Management Deputy Director a few weeks ago and he was very friendly towards me during our very brief phone conversation… however he said he was very busy and would call me back soon. He took down my number and that's the last I've heard of him !

This is very disappointing. He could have at least had Saundra, his secretary call me back. I did place another call into the center and left a voice mail but that didn’t do any good either. What is 911 afraid of.

You would think that having your humble writer point out flaws in the radio system would help get this system up and running correctly. Apparently not.

Another big thought that I am having is that in the LONG RUN, 911 is going to find out the same thing Pittsburgh did. This is NOT the right system for our county.

Oh oh, that is big news. The Booger Blah-ger predicting this 800 Mhz will flop? I’m not wishing or hoping that it will, but something tells me that in a year or so Westmoreland County just might be on 400 Mhz… either that or we will be putting our own SATELITTE into Heaven !

SOUTH GREENSBOOGER

Welcome Fire Station 32, South Greensburg to the new 911 system. Their first call on the 800 Mhz system that I know of was for a Motor Vehicle Accident (MVA) at Broad and Huff Streets near Rick’s Video in S. Greensburg.

Needless to say their radios worked fine (but don’t depend on that). Nice to hear you as this booger couldn’t before on VHF.

SCOTTY J.’S SECOND HOME

Not really, but the night of the Crabtree fireworks Scotty J. was outside his abode when he heard this diesel sound coming down the street… it got louder and louder until this beast of black came rolling down this road.

It was the The Westmoreland County 911 Roving Radio Station (aka the Command Center). Scotty J. almost Bhit and Srick !

Is there anyone at 911 that could arrange for Scotty J. to get a ride in the Mobile Command Center ? Of course I will have to go along to report.. you know, to make sure he keeps his hands off the equipment. Just let me know a good time and date. And while I'm at it, could we get one of those nice dispatcher shirts too?

RENT SPACE

Time to offer space on the new radio system so you have some money coming back into the county. Might as well, just program in some new Talk Groups and sell the space.

Westmoreland County could easily charge $200 a month for air space and give each one a talk group. All the radio communications would be radio to radio so 911 wouldn’t even know that they were transmitting on the system (kind of like it is now).

You could get $200 from Bob’s Bumper Repair, $200 from Uncle Underware’s Sandwich Shop, $200 from Highway C.B., $200 from Granny’s Not Home For Children, and $200 from 911 (personal calls). Hell, that’s about $1,001 dollars a month !!

Just think, each one could have their own talk group, 911 would never hear them and the county would be bringing in extra money ! They could apply that $1,000 towards taking care of the elderly or helping the needy in Westmoreland County !

And that is only for 5 customers.. just think if they (911 – WC) had 10, 20, 50 or 100 customers.

Legally Westmoreland County would have to change their FCC license from Public Service to Community Repeater / Public Service… but I don’t see any difference from how it is run now.

When I say that this new system is being used for “rag chew”, PLEASE don’t think that I am referring to the stuff the cops say back and forth. They DESERVE A BREAK each and every day… the radio is their livelihood and riding partner. GOD BLESS EACH AND EVERY ONE OF THEM !

I’m talking about the MAINTENANCE PEOPLE who chat back and forth about nothing instead of using their cell phones.

BREAKING NEWS
(from information received)

THE PEOPLE THAT ARE SERVICING OUR 911 SYSTEM ARE CARRYING BETTER RADIOS THAN OUR POLICE !

RADIO MAINTENANCE HAS MOTOROLA XTS 5000 SERIES RADIOS !

OUR POLICE / FIRE / EMS DO NOT EVEN GET THOSE $$$ RADIOS. Those radios cost thousands of dollars that we, the tax payers paid for ! (not hundreds… thousands… and I wonder how many employees Radio Maintenance has ?)

WHERE DOES IT STOP ?

NICE

After that I have to write something nice ‘coz I are pizzedoff. So, here is something very nice and I haven’t given out a GOOD BOOGY AWARDS lately so here we go.

Medic 116 (I believe, and also I think they are in Lower Kiski..) had a call where a dog was lost. From what I heard the ambulance crew went out of their way to find this little dog and got a message back to a patient that the dog was ok.

In another incident, a person watching someone’s baby had to be rushed to the hospital and the Mother of the baby was in Pittsburgh.

The Medics went out of their way to care for the baby until the Mother could come back. I believe the message from the Medic crew went out something like this… “tell the Mother not to worry about the baby, it will be taken care of and looked after !”.

Now, that is nice ! GOOD JOB and to all the AMBULACE SERVICES... an award !

MORNING BREAKFAST

A hardy bowl of Potato Chips and Moose Milk with Phosphoric Acid, a Bitty Bowl of Bitters, a Peanut Butter and Steak-em Bisket w/Ketchup and Watermelon and a cup from Joe. You can put something in the cup if you wish however that will be up to Joe.

WORKING HARD FOR YOU

Dear Ladies and Genitles,

This Afternoodle, instead of a writing a long news letter I am going to focus my time on preparing several items for tonight’s big edition. As you can see from my greeting that I still have a since of humor however I am going to have to start separating some of the humor from the serious, some things are just getting way out of hand.

I have, with the aid of your tips uncovered something big which should be upsetting to any tax payer in Westmoreland County. I am working on that this noon time.

If you are in management at 911 I will be calling today. Whether you take my call or not is up to you but I will also be reporting on that later tonight also.

It is about time I start mentioning names ! This hinting around when we are talking about peoples lives and millions of dollars is over.

With that I’m back to the research department with an attempt to verify some facts.

Should you be in 911 Management or County Government you may email me if you wish concerning this system and it's ever-growing list of problems. It is better if you tell me than if I have to be tipped off. Should you be reading this and you are not in management I would love to hear your tips. news@k3sam.com
