POLICY - FEDS UPSET ?

This is a Blah-ger Policy Notice.

It’s not as if I actually had a policy in place now so perhaps I am setting one up. Writing about the same things over and over again is not being very productive so I am going to have to focus on those things that I believe I can change, then pound that into management's heads. I'll pound until the hammer breaks !

I am disappointed though. I cannot do this alone. Right now besides a few insiders at the 911 center and a handful of cops and firefighters, no one is sending in any tips.

Your tips will remain anonymous unless you tell me otherwise. In fact you can just go to Yahoo or Hotmail and create a "fake" account to send me messages, that way they can't be traced. Whatever it takes to get me the information, please do it.
= = = = = =
The things (tips) I need to know are;

Where are the dead spots in your area, places where your radios just don’t work ?

Do you have any radios, speaker mics, etc.. that do not work ?

911 Employees, are there any other problems with our system, and if so what are they and how long have they existed. What is the current status ?

Fire, Police, EMS - are you having any problems with any dispatchers ? Problems that would cause 911 to not function properly and jeopardize the lives of Westmoreland Co. residents or that of the first responders. (I don't want to hear about personal conflicts !)

If you are a dispatcher, are you having any problems with any services, management, working conditions (that affect the system and peoples lives - no emails on a shortage of toilet paper or cigar smoke smell !), etc… ?

During 800 Mhz equipment installation did you have any equipment stop working, in other words was the installation job done correctly ? If not, what happened and what equipment was screwed up ?

Anything on these lines, the goal here is to get a system that you can depend on. A system that will work everytime you hit the transmit button. We are still a half-light-year away but that is better than a whole light-year.
= = = = = =

What I need is TRUTHFUL reports. I had a fire chief call me on the telephone and tell me that his system is working perfectly and that I was making false reports. Then I find out that this chief has a son who is a dispatcher (I have many ways of finding things out ya know).

Further, two days later this fire chief was called out on a fire and he said more than once on the radio something to the effect “911, repeat that as I couldn’t hear you”.

Great system there chief, right !

Give me something to investigate and I will.
= = = = = =

Other than that, I will make my posts only when I have something to report or if there is a system flash.

Those flashes will include;

System CRASHS.
Partial system CRASH.
Motorola announced maintenance.
Motorola unannounced maintenance.
Time sensitive news.

System posts will be made when;

There is new news to report.
New Audio, Photo or Data files are posted.
Periodic system updates and reviews.
Management changes.
Official Correspondence received.
= = = = = =

This will also give me some extra time to edit audio files, answer your emails about this system in more detail (elaborate with facts and references when possible) and update my website.

When you request detailed information such as "why doesn't Penn Township Police have good portable radio coverage when I can still hear their car transmissions ?" I ask that you provide your real name and what company you are with if any.

This is information is just for me. If I am going to spend 20 or 30 minutes answering your email I would at least like to know who I am talking to.

I DO HAVE some system news to add to this Blah-g.

There has been a suspected “dead spot” located at the old Sleepy Hollow Inn area which is located in-between Latrobe and Ligonier on US Route 30. Not only can I CONFIRM that now, I can also add that there is a now a much larger area CONFIRMED to go with that.

The Dead Spot begins about a quarter of a mile before the Rt. 217 cut off on Rt. 30 heading east and it goes almost until the Road Toad (another land mark on Rt. 30).

That is around a 3 mile Dead Spot where the 800 Mhz Radios probably will not work because there isn't any signals. !

This CONFIRMED dead spot is affecting fire stations 39, 73, 71, 113, 42, 43 and other fire stations that are called in for assists.

Police departments 4-70 and 4-60 are also having problems in this area.

I am just finding out some HOT news that I need to investigate a little bit more before even I know the whole skinny.

I'm finding out that the Federal Government is more than a little upset at Westmoreland County !

Hmm, that can't be good, can it ? Something must be wrong, right ?

Of course something is wrong or I wouldn't be here typing and I'm sure you wouldn't be reading !! And the Federal Government wouldn't be pizzed off.

Well, that is for another Blah-g. Please check often for updates and flashes, and most importantly please report anything you believe might MAKE THIS A BETTER EMERGENCY RADIO SYSTEM !!

Have any suggestions for more tower sites ?? Should Courthouse and Park Maintenance have expensive 800 Mhz radios when they could be using the old system which was fine for their needs and their 800 Mhz radios could be given to a fire or police department where they are needed more ? Every time the Courthouse or Park Maintenance transmit they take up valuable repeater air time that might be needed during an emergency !

Your ideas ??? news@k3sam.com
