FLASH - 911 SYSTEM PROBLEMS - FLASH

ONE HALF OF THE 911 SYSTEM IS DOWN !

No big article yet however there will be one later.

THIS SHOULD NEVER HAPPEN - NO BACK UP SYSTEM IN PLACE AND THAT IS NOT RIGHT.

Best I can guess is that around 4:47 PM or 16:47 hours the system took a lightning strike and crashed ! Radios and Computer system problems.

More later !

DECODED,

GMAN IS NOW 100 !

How can this be, the holiday is over !

I don’t know about where you live but Latrobe had a fantastic fireworks display, one after another with the next one being better than the one before the last one was, hell ! What does that have to do with the Westmoreland County Department of Public Safety Radio System ?

Oh, I know. The fire department used their radios. That’s the ticket !

DOWN TO BIZZWAX

Westmoreland County’s Dispatchers Need a Vacation.

At least some of them do. Getting a bit testy and verbally jumping at police officers and firemen on the air is not polite, nor is it professional ! We (the Booger Blah-ger board of directors) may have to send those dispatchers into see Dr. Frazer Crane.

I’m sure after a few sessions with the good doc he’ll have you a patchin’ just as good as you ever was.

Now I know for what I speak ! So don’t attempt to try and tell me I’m wrong. Yell at the front GATE before you enter work, not at the people that are here to protect and serve us !

FIREWORKS

All of the police departments were dispatched for fireworks complaints over the holiday and the only department that seem to get hit harder than the others was New Kensington (also home of GMan… perhaps he was throwing some of those M-79’s from his NKNOC command center !).

In fact one of the police cars in District 9 was egged ! Who would egg a police car ? That would take a hell of a lot of bongos, more than I have.

After a multitude of police calls one officer was overheard saying “I’m going home”, "I am already facing 3 lawsuits" and I don't need another !

Phunny Guys ! Very Phunny.

WHAT ? WHAT ? HUH ? WHAT ?

As a scanner listener and devoting all of my free time to listening to the Westmoreland County 911 Center I can say that the system basically sounds fine here.

HOWEVER THERE IS A PROBLEM. The cars are not hearing 911 ! Somewhere there must be a system break-down if I can hear 911 and they cannot.

Let me put this blah-ger technical mind into gear. Gggreeeeeerrrerr, eerrrrroooowennn, wowwwwowwwwowwwrumrum- RUMMM. There we go.

I can hear you. Cars cannot. Bad cars ? Think not.

Radios bad, probably not. Radio settings wrong, ahh ! That may just be it. I’m telling you people, the 911 system sounds good with excellent audio (since they corrected it). I can look at the audio levels on the screen and they are all at about 87%, which is almost perfect when considering the digital to analog conversion factor.

I believe that the car audio setting needs adjusted. Not internally, just crank up the volume control. Staleys, EARN YOUR PAY and go check out a few cruisers and see what’s going on. These guys and gals in the field have been using radios for years and if they say there is a problem, believe them.

How come the fire departments don’t have this problem ?

GMAN HAS AN ANNOUNCEMENT

But I’ll make it for him since he isn’t here. GMAN has NOW INCREASED his streaming audio listener ports from the normal 15 listeners at a time to 100+ ! That means if you have been trying to listen to the Westmoreland County Radio System BUT haven’t been able to connect because it was always busy (and it was), your chances have now improved dramatically !

GMAN has assured me that even though he is making all these changes to his website and streaming audio connections, he will NOT charge for this service. That is great and a nice pat on the back goes to this fine young fart. He gets a good Boogy Award for his efforts !

Basically in layman's terms, the audio is now being beamed out of his micro-labs to a bigger site where the cable is bigger and the electrons flow faster. NEW instructions on how to connect and use this system are posted at his site, www.gmans.net.

FLASH

PROJECTS

The antenna project is semi-finished. The PROTOTYPE is built and working great. Not one bit of digi-crap has been heard since making the BIG connection to the back of the scanner. When connecting the BNC connector I bet I felt just like Dick, Mark and Joe when 911 was first put on the air !

I will now have to get a hold of a service monitor to make some field strength measurements OR I can just guess and write down phony numbers. Lets see, which would be easier ?

The antenna project came from an idea that I had after having problems receiving the new 911 center and it’s design began on cardboard. Now it’s more permanent and even looks semi-professional !

I’ll keep you up to date on it’s reliability and provide you with a patent number when I receive one.

MEDICS NEDICS

OH BOY, a final BAD word. 911 began dispatching TRAFFORD MEDIC 220 at 04:50:16 this morning and at 04:56:34 they gave up and dispatched Medic 225 in their place.

Medic 225 acknowledged within 39 SECONDS ! COME ON MEDIC 220, OVER 6 MINUTES AND NO RESPONSE !

I am so glad I wasn’t the one needing an ambulance. And to top it off, Trafford Police Car 1-37 was requesting that the ambulance EXPEDITE !

Bad, very Bad !

Have a wonderful day and smile, God Loves You !
